The Annual Peace Poetry Prize Award Ceremony took place in the Maurice Keyworth Lecture Theatre of the University of Leeds on Tuesday 27 November 2018.

John Battle, Chair of the Diocese of Leeds Justice and Truth Commission and Former MP for Leeds West, gave a short address on the theme of poverty and food inequality, and Helen Whale, Senior Community Fundraiser Yorkshire, The British Red Cross, gave a brief talk. Also in attendance was John Whale (Director of the University of Leeds Poetry Centre) and Rehana Minhas, Chair of Leeds Peace Poetry.

Prizes were awarded by ​Chief Judge Simon Armitage in three categories (primary school, secondary school and adult) and winners in each category were invited to read from their work.

Primary

First Prize: Lucy Callaghan, 'Is this Right?'

Second Prize: Daniel Young, 'Food Inequality'

Third Prize: Diego Hodkinson-Gonzalez,  'Sharing is Caring But do you?' and Chloe Wade, 'Hunger'

Secondary

First Prize: Frankie Wills, 'Not that it ever is:'

Second Prize: Helena Verity, 'The Reign of Hunger

Third Prize: Helena Verity, 'Absence'

Individual (adult)

First Prize: Ken Evans, 'Turning Circles'

Second Prize: Helen Kay, 'Kibbutz Canteen 1990'

Third Prize: Ian Harker, 'RED KITE, EAST END PARK'
