Poetry@Leeds

The work of Poetry@Leeds members and our activities reflect the powerful insights – across disciplines, time periods, languages and cultures – to be gained from researching and writing poetry in a University environment.

We work closely with the University’s Cultural Collections, which hold internationally significant poetry books, manuscripts, and archives from the 17th century to the present day.

We host a wide range of events, including readings, symposia, conferences, and workshops.

Previous Poetry@Leeds symposia include: Poetry By Design: A Reappraisal of Concrete and Visual Poetry (in collaboration with the Brotherton Cultural Collections) and Summit (in collaboration with Yorkshire Sculpture Park, the Laurel Prize, the Poetry School and the National Poetry Centre).

Recently, Poetry@Leeds organised its first biennial international conference Poetry's Environments. We also worked closely with the Centre for New Chinese Writing, to organise a major convention of poets from China and the UK

Dante@Leeds (formerly Leeds Centre for Dante Studies) sits within Poetry@Leeds and promotes the study of Dante from a variety of disciplinary and methodological perspectives.
