Fellowships
Caster Fellows
As part of the University’s plan to create a new Academy of Cultural Fellows, a generous donation by the Caster family established a two-year fellowship in poetry.
The Caster Cultural Fellowship in Poetry has been held by Helen Mort, Malika Booker, Anthony Vahni Capildeo, Matt Howard and Zaffar Kunial.
The Caster Cultural Fellowship in Poetry was relaunched in 2026, with five more fellows to be appointed on an annual basis.
The Fellow (from Sept 2026) is Kris Johnson.
Cheney Fellows
Poetry@Leeds hosts Cheney Fellows, including in collaboration with the Leeds Centre for New Chinese Writing.
Current Cheney fellows are Shara McCallum and Tammy Ho Lai-ming. Bai Hua was a past fellow.
Gregory Fellows
Between 1950 and 1980 the pioneering Gregory Fellowships scheme (under the patronage of Eric Gregory and with the assistance of T. S. Eliot, Herbert Read, and the then Head of the Department of English Bonamy Dobrée) brought twelve poets to Leeds as artists in residence.
